Adolescence wins big as The Pitt and The Studio also honoured at 2025 Emmys

Acclaimed Netflix one-shot drama Adolescence swept the board at the 2025 Emmy Awards last night, winning every category in which it was nominated.

The miniseries took home a total of six gongs, for best limited series, directing and writing, plus acting honours for stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper, who at the age of 15 became the youngest ever male Emmy winner when he was named best supporting actor in a limited series.

Picking up his prize for outstanding actor in a limited series, Graham said: “This kind of thing doesn’t normally happen to a kid like me. I’m just a mixed-race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirkby. To be acknowledged by you is the most humbling thing I could ever imagine in my life.”

Graham also shared the award for outstanding writing on a limited series with Jack Thorne, while Philip Barantini was named outstanding director of a limited series.

The 77th Emmys ceremony was held at LA’s Peacock Theater and the gongs were presented by comedian Nate Bargatze, with CBS and Paramount+ airing and streaming the star-studded ceremony.

Going into the event, sci-fi series Severance dominated the nominations with 27 nods across multiple categories. However, the AppleTV+ show won only two honours, with Britt Lower named best lead actress in a drama series and Tramell Tillman named outstanding supporting actor.

Another AppleTV+ show, Seth Rogan’s satirical series The Studio, became the most-nominated first-year comedy series in the awards’ history, with 23 nods. It triumphed in best comedy series, best lead actor in a comedy (Rogan), best directing for a comedy (Rogan) and best writing for a comedy (Rogan, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez).

HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt also performed well, bagging the prestigious outstanding drama series prize, as well as honours for best lead actor in a drama (Noah Wyle) and best supporting actress in a drama (Katherine LaNasa), while the same platform’s Hacks saw Jean Smart win best lead actress in a comedy and Hannah Einbinder scoop best supporting actress.

Away from the scripted categories, NBC’s The Traitors triumphed as best reality competition show and the recently cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won best talk series.

At the end of the night, HBO/HBO Max boasted the most Emmy wins with nine, while AppleTV+ was in second place with seven and Netflix next with six.
