Netflix orders Land-inspired dramedy

Netflix has ordered a new original female-driven dramedy series titled Maid inspired by Stephanie Land’s best-selling memoir.

Channing Dungey

The series follows the life of a single mother who turns to housekeeping to make ends meet as she fights against poverty, homelessness and bureaucracy.

It is based on Land’s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive, which became a New York Times bestseller

Maid will be produced by LuckyChap Entertainment and John Wells Productions alongside Warner Bros Entertainment. Land, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Brett Hedblom, Eric Jontow and John Wells serve as executive producers.

The series is written by Molly Smith Metzler (Orange Is The New Black), who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Channing Dungey, who joined the streaming giant as VP of original series last year following her departure from ABC, said: “Maid is a poignant portrait that chronicles Stephanie Land’s strife and victories, and has the power to connect with our members around the world as they identify with her struggles and root for her success.”
