Netflix, Hulu raise curtain on Staged

Michael Sheen and David Tennant in Staged

Netflix, Hulu and Australian pubcaster ABC are among the international buyers to have acquired UK comedy series Staged from newly launched international distributor Rainmaker Content.

Netflix has taken secondary rights to the 6×22’ series in the UK, while Disney-owned streamer Hulu has picked up the show for the US.

Home entertainment and TV operator Shout! Studios in North Africa and Huanxi Media Group in China have also picked up the show, along with ABC.

Staged stars Michael Sheen (Good Omens, Masters of Sex) and David Tennant (Good Omens, Doctor Who) as fictionalised versions of themselves trying to rehearse for a performance of Luigi Pirandello’s play Six Characters in Search of an Author via video conference during lockdown.

The series is an original BBC production and was written, filmed and produced during lockdown earlier this year. It was created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, with Evans writing and directing.

The series was produced by Infinity Hill and GCB Films Production and originally aired on BBC1 in June.
