NBCU’s Hayu heads to Canada

NBCUniversal (NBCU)’s reality-focused SVoD service Hayu is expanding its international footprint with a launch in Canada later this year.

Hayu launched in the UK, Ireland and Australia in March 2016, carrying NBCU reality content such as Keeping Up With the Kardashians and The Real Housewives franchise.

It has since expanded into Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, with the Canadian launch marking the first time it will be available in North America.

The streaming service will be curated specifically for audiences in Canada, where reality content is popular, said Hendrik McDermott, senior VP of branded on-demand at NBCU.

Hayu includes more than 5,000 episodes of reality content from 150-plus different series that can be downloaded for viewing on the go without requiring internet access.
