Laura Dern prodco pulls into Platform One

Producer and distributor Platform One Media has agreed a first-look TV deal with the LA-based prodco led by Golden Globe winner Laura Dern and her producing partner.

Mr & Mrs American Pie is McDaniel’s debut novel

TPG Growth-backed Platform One and Jaywalker Pictures, which Dern set up alongside Jayme Lemons last year, will kick-off their partnership with the series Mr & Mrs American Pie.

Currently in development, the show is based on the debut novel of the same name by Juliet McDaniel and follows a woman’s attempts to reconstitute her identity after being dismissed by not only her husband but her entire social milieu.

Set in 1969, it will be written and executive produced by McDaniel, along with Dern, Lemons, Elisa Ellis of Platform One and Adam Gomolin, founder of book publisher and rights-management platform Inkshares, which optioned the rights to the novel to Platform One.

Platform One was set up last year by media giant Liberty Global and equity investor TPG Growth and is headed by Katie O’Connell Marsh, the former CEO of Gaumont Television.

“It is delicious storytelling that explores how an unorthodox family brings social equality in the most unlikely and hilarious way. Laura and Jayme loved it as much as we did, and we are thrilled to have this as our first project out of the gate,” said O’Connell Marsh.

Big Little Lies star Dern and Lemons first worked together on the 2000 Robert Altman film Dr T & the Women and have continued to collaborate since on projects such as Enlightened and The Tale.

Jaywalker Pictures has numerous projects in development with HBO, including an untitled half-hour drama with Alex Gibney about a death-row psychiatrist.
