Hulu picks up Paulson thriller movie

Run star Kiera Allen on set with director Aneesh Chaganty

Disney-owned streamer Hulu has acquired US rights to a forthcoming thriller film starring Sarah Paulson from US studio Lionsgate.

Run revolves around the complex relationship between a mother (Paulson) and her wheelchair-bound daughter – played by real-life wheelchair-using actor Kiera Allen – whom she has raised in total isolation, controlling her every move. When the girl decides to escape her mother’s grip, it proves more challenging than expected.

According to its producers, Run is the first major thriller starring a wheelchair user since the 1940s.

The film is directed and written by Aneesh Chaganty and produced by Natalie Qasabian and Sev Ohanian. It joins Hulu’s growing slate of original films, which includes Palm Springs, Big Time Adolescence and forthcoming title The Binge.

Chaganty said: “We’re super-excited audiences will get to stream Run on Hulu, a platform that’s really committed to giving the movie the same big splash that was always intended for it. Plus the film is about a girl who’s been quarantined at home her whole life; watching it the same way should be a fitting experience in 2020.”
