HBO Europe zeros in on ZeroZeroZero

MIPCOM: HBO Europe has struck its first pan-regional deal with producer and distributor StudioCanal, acquiring forthcoming drug-trafficking drama ZeroZeroZero from the French firm.

The presale deal for the eight-part series covers HBO Europe’s services in Central and Eastern Europe and the Nordics.

ZeroZeroZero, which is currently in production, is the second drama to be adapted from a Roberto Saviano book after mafia series Gomorrah. It is made by ITV Studios-owned Italian prodco Cattleya for Sky, Canal+ and Amazon. The producer is Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah, Romanzo Criminale), who also directs the first two episodes.

The series was developed by Leonardo Fasoli, Stefano Bises, Saviano and Sollima. It stars Andrea Riseborough and Dane DeHaan. The multilingual production takes place across three continents and six countries, featuring six languages. It is due to launch in 2019.

ZeroZeroZero links the power-hungry, family-driven criminals of Mexican cartels, Italy’s ‘Ndrangheta (Calabrian mafia) and corrupt businessmen as they fight to dominate the global cocaine market.
