Global takes Chart Show into CEE

MIPCOM: Broadcasters in Central Europe have picked up format rights to German music series The Ultimate Chart Show, after deals with distributor Global Screen.

TV Markiza in Slovakia, Nova TV in Czech Republic and RTL TV in Croatia have all acquired the format – the German company’s format sales manager Alexandra Heidrich said today in Cannes.

The Czech-language adaptation of the format is in post-production and will be broadcast during fall/winter on Nova and Markiza, which are both owned by CME. The Croatian net, meanwhile, is part of the same group as the channel that airs The Ultimate Chart Show in Germany.

Global Screen is here this week also shopping a slate of other formats, including ARD’s classic gamer Celebrity Challenge: Quiz Around The World and long-standing travel show Life Is A Road Trip from the same network.

New property The Urban Diary comes from Vox and sees contestants having to survive in a big city for four days on a budget of 50 euros; while SRF’s life swap format Same But Different and RTL’s dating show The Love Of My New Life are also on the slate.

On the scripted front, Global Screen is also distributing A Dangerous Fortune, a forthcoming adaptation of author Ken Follett’s 1993 novel of the same name. The period mini is a coproduction between pubcaster ZDF, prodco Constantin TV and copro outfit Network Movie, and is being shot in Ireland.

The two-parter was described by director Christian Schwochow as “a very contemporary, profound fairy tale about human desires and inner turmoil.”
