Global gets Rise from NBCU

Drama Rise will debut on Global and on NBC in the US

Corus Entertainment channel Global in Canada has acquired a forthcoming US drama from the showrunner of Friday Night Lights and a producer behind hit stage musical Hamilton.

Ten-episode series Rise will begin airing on Global on March 13, the same day it is due to debut on NBC in the US.

Based on Michael Sokolove’s novel Drama High, the series is from Friday Night Lights and Parenthood executive producer and showrunner Jason Katims and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller.

It tells the true story of a drama teacher who inspires his class and revitalises the working-class town where he works. The show is distributed by NBCUniversal Television Distribution.
