Gaumont adds Univision exec for copros

Narcos producer Gaumont has appointed a new VP of international TV coproductions to expand its TV distribution and copro partnerships in key territories, with a focus on Latin America.

Christian Gabela will report to Vanessa Shapiro, president of worldwide TV distribution and coproduction, and will work closely with all of the creative execs at Gaumont in LA, Paris, London and Berlin.

Gabela joins the company from Spanish-language US broadcaster Univision, where he was VP and general manager of the production division, Story House Entertainment. His credits include Netflix originals El Chapo and Tijuana.

Gaumont’s first Latin American coproduction, El Presidente for Amazon Prime, is currently in production. Drug drama Narcos is now in its fifth season and animation F is for Family in its fourth season for Netflix, while British show Tin Star is in its third for Sky and Amazon Prime.

“Christian’s knowledge of TV development and production will bolster our distribution/coproduction efforts in the Latin America region where we have 10 drama series in development, alongside our in-house Latin American shows,” said Christophe Riandee, vice-CEO at Gaumont.
