France 4 toasts Sardine’s ToonMarty

ToonMarty was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment

Pubcaster France Télévisions has acquired a slapstick comedy produced by Montreal’s Sardine Productions and distributed by Barcelona-based GoldBee.

ToonMarty (40×11′) will begin airing on the group’s free-to-air channel France 4 in early 2018.

The series was commissioned by Corus Entertainment in Canada for its Teletoon French- and English-language networks and premiered on both in May.

Set in a town where all cartoons live, the series follows its only employee as he goes on adventures with the inhabitants.

The property has been supported by the Bell Fund, Canadian Media Fund, Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, The Shaw Rocket Fund and the Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles.

Other broadcasters to have acquired the show include ITV in the UK and Nickelodeon, which took it for its international channels and catch-up services around the world, excluding North America, China and Japan.

“We were impressed with the extravagant and fun storytelling of the series and the hilarious situations created by the cartoon-esque adventures of Marty,” said Claire Heinrich, head of acquisitions, children and youth department at France Télévisions.
