Feig leads new swathe of Snap originals

Social media firm Snap has ordered another round of exclusive originals for its Snapchat platform, including a scripted series with Ghostbusters director Paul Feig.

Everything’s Fine (working title) comes from Feig’s prodco Powderkeg and follows a college junior with big plans to succeed in the music industry while coping with a recent bipolar diagnosis.

Described as a comedy with an unflinching point of view on what it takes to manage a mental health condition while striving to be an overachiever, it is due to arrive in spring 2020.

In addition, musician Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) will serve as producer and music supervisor on Everything’s Fine.

Elsewhere on the scripted slate, Players will be produced by Loud Labs Media and One Push and follows the son of a famed NBA player and a rising star himself, who relocates from Indiana to LA when his father is traded.

No longer a big fish in a small pond, he has to prove his worth at a fancy west LA private school where he’s not even guaranteed a starting spot on the basketball team. It is due to premiere later this fall.

Save Me, also from Loud Labs Media and One Push, will launch this winter and follows an isolated home-schooler who takes it upon himself to find his online classmate and crush after she goes missing.

But when his search leads him to an off-the-grid “conscious community” that promotes human connection over digital devices, his character is tested in real life.

Snap has also ordered a quartet of docuseries: Tekashi69 Vs The World, from Complex, which charts the rise and fall of controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine; Nikita Unfiltered, from Sirens Media, which follows transgender beauty mogul Nikita Dragun; The Honeybeez, from Leftfield Pictures, about Alabama State’s plus-size dance squad; and Driven, from MGM-owned Big Fish Entertainment, about an entourage of young entrepreneurs working in the high-end, exotic car industry.

The slate also includes the unscripted series Mind Yourself, from Barcroft Studios, an anthology series in which each episode paints an honest and intimate portrait of a young person suffering or recovering from a mental health issue.

In addition, Snap has renewed its originals Bringing Up Bhabie (docuseries) by Invent TV, Two Sides (scripted drama) by New Form, and Kappa Crypto (scripted comedy) by Indigo Development and Entertainment Arts.
