Federation deals in VRT ecstasy drama

Drugs drama Undercover is based on real events

French distributor Federation Entertainment has acquired the international rights to a Flemish thriller about one of the largest ecstasy producers in the world.

Undercover (10×50′) was inspired by real events and follows an ecstasy producer who lives a seemingly charmed life in his villa on the Dutch-Belgian border.

However, things start to change when two undercover agents move into his territory, attempting to infiltrate his life and shut down his network.

Netflix took global rights to the series last year and will debut it in 2019, including in the Netherlands but excluding France, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland, where it will be shown first by local broadcasters.

The series was produced by De Mensen for Belgian broadcaster VRT. Coproduction partners included Netflix and ZDF in Germany, alongside Proximus, Federation Entertainment, Dutch FilmWorks, Good Friends, Gardner & Domm, Gallop Tax Shelter and the Belgian Tax Shelter.

It was created and written by Nico Moolenaar, Bart Uytdenhouwen and Piet Matthys. The series is directed by Eshref Reybrouck and Frank Devos. The cast includes Anna Drijver, Frank Lammers, Elise Schaap and Tom Waes.

The drama will be screened on April 10 as part of the forthcoming international TV festival Canneseries, which is set to debut next month alongside MipTV in France.
