Discovery COO resurfaces at A+E

A+E Networks has appointed a former Discovery chief operating office to a dual role, heading commercial in Latin America and Canada and working across the company’s global operations.

Edward Sabin becomes MD for the Americas and head of commercial operations for international. He will manage all aspects of the company’s growth in Latin America and Canada, as well as leading business operations for A+E Networks’ international channels.

His American responsibilities will include oversight of all key relationships, partnerships, channels, programme sales and digital media activities.

Sabin, who will be based in LA, will also be responsible for leading global strategic and operational initiatives and teams, while also evaluating A+E’s approach to business, reporting to Sean Cohan, exec VP of international.

Cohan said: “Both wholly owned businesses and our partnerships with leading players have grown dramatically. In his role, Edward joins a strong team and partners that are bullish on the continued growth of some of the best content and brands across all regions and platforms.”

Sabin revealed he was to leave Discovery last year ahead of the arrival of former Shine America exec Rich Ross as president of the US channel.

He had previously overseen strategy, network operations, talent management, research and financial matters for Discovery and TLC Networks, as well as Science Channel and Velocity. Before that he spent time with Fox Television Studios as senior VP of business development and operations.
