C21’s Big Picture to launch AI initiative to determine industry response to climate crisis
CONTENT LONDON: C21Media is set to launch an initiative to determine the global entertainment industry’s response to the climate emergency, gathering diverse opinion about how it can best support the fight to secure the future of a healthy planet.

The objective of the C21 Big Picture Climate Consensus is to determine what those working in the business feel is the responsibility of media and entertainment when it comes to climate change, and how to bring about positive change.
Using a real-time AI system for gathering, analysing and understanding what large groups of people think, the initiative will bring together opinion from the global content industry on this crucial subject for the first time.
The C21 Big Picture Climate Consensus will look to build consensus around the best ideas the entertainment business has as a community to address it. The project is powered by Pol.is, a platform enabled by AI-powered machine learning as a means of ‘temperature checking’ a community and driving informed decision-making. It is already used by governments, businesses and NGOs.
C21Media founder David Jenkinson said: “We all know entertainment is a powerful medium, but we rarely engage as an industry around facilitating positive change. The C21 Big Picture Climate Consensus is designed as a start towards imagining how we may collectively make a difference in this space. The output from the initiative will inform a variety of ways everyone can make a difference.”
Bo Stehmeier
Bo Stehmeier, CEO of producer Off the Fence and advisor to C21’s Big Picture, added: “Extreme weather and its devastating impact is all over our breaking news, yet our climate emergency is still quietly tucked away in small specialist genres rather than in mainstream entertainment. It’s the creative community’s game to construct culture, to subplot this reality everywhere, so why aren’t we?
“This initiative is a first in opening dialogue for all, whoever and wherever you are, on how we actually feel, and that can deliver actionable recommendations we can all get behind. So, let’s be brave and ask the most important question of our time: what do we care about?”
C21’s Big Picture is an ongoing project to support positive change in and through the content business across several key areas, including sustainability and environment.
The C21 Big Picture Climate Consensus will launch in earnest in the first quarter of 2025. C21Media will kick-start the initial temperature check by gathering a diverse set of statements from within the industry on climate change and how to respond to it through the lens of storytelling and entertainment.
A dedicated landing page on the C21Media website will enable participation from the wider community, thereby creating rich analysis of what people agree and disagree with and can find solutions to.
Climate storytelling on screen came into focus here at Content London today in the session titled Big Picture: Climate on screen.
