Crackle fires up more StartUp

Startup delves into the digital black market

Sony’s digital streaming service Crackle has commissioned a third season of its drama series StartUp starring Martin Freeman and Ron Perlman.

The free, ad-supported streaming network has greenlit 10×60′ episodes of the show, which is produced by Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions.

Created by Ben Ketai, the show is set in the world of the digital black market and also stars Adam Brody, Edi Gathegi, Addison Timlin and Otmara Marrero.

“This past season was exciting, with nods to relevant and timely topics like corporatisation of the internet, Bitcoin and the darknet, which made for some great storytelling,” said Ketai, who is also a writer, executive producer and director on the series.

Other executive producers include Gianni Nunnari, Shannon Gaulding, Tom Forman, Andrew Marcus, Ray Ricord and Anne Clements.

The recommission follows news that Crackle’s general manager, Eric Berger, has had his role expanded to include the position of executive VP and chief digital officer at Sony Pictures Television Networks.
