Comedy Central signs Drunk History host

Viacom-owned US cablenet Comedy Central has agreed a first-look deal with the co-creator and host of its Drunk History series.

The deal gives Comedy Central Productions (CCP), the cablenet’s new studio arm, the first option on content from Derek Waters’ production company Be Nice Or Leave. Comedy Central has also ordered a seventh season of Drunk History (16×30’), in which an inebriated narrator attempts to recount a historical event.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new relationship with Comedy Central. They took a chance on me and have been fantastic in supporting Drunk History over the past six seasons. I look forward to creating thoughtful, entertaining and hilarious programming,” said writer and comedian Waters.

Co-created by Waters and Jeremy Konner, Drunk History is produced by CCP. Waters and Konner executive produce the show alongside Greg Tuculescu plus Gary Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Owen Burke. Monika Zielinska and Daniel Wolfberg exec produce for Comedy Central.

Waters and his production company join the likes of Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs’ prodco Paulilu, Daniel Powell and Alex Bach’s label Irony Point, and Anthony King and Stuart Miller in signing deals with CCP.
