Cineflix signs Curious first-look deal

Cineflix acquired Britain’s Youngest Football Boss last spring

UK-based distributor Cineflix Rights has closed a first-look development deal with local start-up indie Curious Films.

The partnership gives Cineflix exclusive distribution rights to Curious’s new slate, working with the prodco to generate international sales and commissions.

Curious was launched 18 months ago by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell with a focus on popular factual television. Its recent output includes Chris Packham: 7.7 Billion People & Counting (BBC2), Charlotte Church: My Family & Me (Channel 4) and Britain’s Youngest Football Boss (BBC3), which Cineflix picked up last year.

The company is currently in production on projects including Frank Gardner: Being Frank (BBC2) and Squad Goals, a six-part follow-up series with West Ham United’s Women’s team (BBC3).

“Curious Films has demonstrated the ability to win commissions from across the UK market for high-profile, attention-grabbing content which appeals to a wide range of audiences – particularly the 16-34 age group,” said Cineflix Rights head of acquisitions Richard Life.

“Partnering with Cineflix Rights provides us with the opportunity to move to our next phase of growth, building out from the UK into international markets,” said Curious Films co-founder Dov Freedman.

Cineflix Rights’ pact with Curious Films is the latest partnership for the distributor, following recent deals with Finestripe Productions, Windfall Films, Renegade Pictures, Lion TV and Talesmith.
