Cartoon Network unveils 2017/18 slate

Cartoon Network (CN) has greenlit two new animated series as part of its slate for 2017/18, including one based on a pilot created by UK animator George Gendi.

Apple & Onion

Apple & Onion is described as a friendship comedy and comes from Gendi, who has previously worked as a storyboard artist on current CN hit The Amazing World of Gumball out of CN Studios Europe. It follows two friends getting used to living in the big city.

The Turner-owned children’s channel has also commissioned Craig of the Creek, created by Matt Burnett and Ben Levin, formerly from CN show Steven Universe.

The series follows two best friends who have ventured into a world where tribes of children live in an untamed wilderness full of tree forts and dirt bike ramps.

The commissions come as CN increases content output across all platforms and join other recently added shows such as Summer Camp Island, OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, reboot Ben 10 and movie spin-off Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs.

Meanwhile, current series such as We Bare Bears, The Powerpuff Girls, Mighty Magiswords, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Teen Titans Go! and The Amazing World of Gumball will all return in 2017/18.

The channel is also adding new mobile apps based on the shows The Powerpuff Girls, Steven Universe, OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, Ben 10 and Mighty Magsiwords later this year.

In related news, fellow Turner-owned network Adult Swim has greenlit two new animated series, Apollo Gauntlet, which will debut this summer, and Hot Streets, which will arrive in the fall.

The former comes from online platform Mondo’s animation studio, Six Point Harness, and Mosaic, while the latter is produced by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the team behind Adult Swim hit Robot Chicken.
