ABOUT THE CONTENT LONDON GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT FORMAT PITCH 2024

The Content London Global Entertainment Formats Pitch is designed to discover the next great international hit from the most creative emerging formats creators.

 

The pitch session is a cornerstone of the three-day Formats & Factual strand at Content London and offers a £30,000 marketing prize for the winner, with all finalists promoted to C21’s community of 200,000 monthly uniques.

 

This year there were over 80 submissions and eight projects have been selected to pitch live at Content London on Tuesday 3 December at 2:30pm. The winning project, selected by an esteemed panel of judges will be announced the same evening from 6pm. The winner will receive a £30,000 marketing prize from C21 Media to support development and pre-sales promotion of the show.

GUESS THE FUTURE

Guess The Future is a game show that brings its contestants to see the future. Unlike most game shows that test contestants’ knowledge of the past or what has happened. In Guess The Future, contestants are asked to predict what will happen in the future, a few weeks from now for a situation, condition, or event. A few weeks later, the host will check whether the contestants’ answers match the current situation. If the contestant’s prediction matches the actual situation, then they will get points.

Louise Melzack

Louise has an extensive background in the television industry, having worked as a Senior Sales Director for Armoza Formats. During her time there, she managed key territories including the UK, USA, Asia, Australia the Nordics and Africa. After five successful years, Louise relocated to London when Armoza was acquired by ITV, where she collaborated with ITV’s global production companies to develop and pitch the Armoza catalogue. Louise is currently developing non-scripted formats independently which led her to step in and pitch this exciting new format.

Spain

A single person known for their poor choices in love will meet three potential suitors and go on a date with each of them. But don’t worry! Our protagonist will be wearing the Red Flag ring, the ultimate tool, which vibrates whenever a suitor says or does something that signals they’re not the right match. The protagonist’s best friends, who have witnessed endless dating disasters, will be the ones deciding what counts as a ‘red flag’.

Teo Palomo has been Head of Content at Thinketers since 2021, where he has worked as executive producer of original formats such as The Gesell Chamber (mental health) and international adaptations such as Mommy Knows Best (dating). Previously, his professional career was consolidated within the development department of Cuarzo Banijay, where he adapted numerous international formats and developed projects of various genres: factual, reality, game shows, true crime… He also has experience in advertising, having worked as a scriptwriter and director of spots for agencies and brands such as McCann, Universal and Mahou.

SHRUNK

From the Creators of Floor is Lava, Shrunk is a high intensity game show of epic proportions.Teams of two compete in challenges with one complication: They’re shrunk down to one inch tall! Cans of soup are as tall as humans; a mosquito is a Kaiji monster! The challenges are real and so is the drama. Our show begins with a host and three teams of two on a typical shiny floor game show set. Suddenly there is an epic reveal of a perilous oversized obstacle course. Behind the physical set is a massive LED volume that elevates the look of the environment to the point of a high-end feature film quality CGI world. Tiny shrunken contestants must use speed, ingenuity and teamwork to make it to the final challenge and win the cash prize.

Dan Fill  

Dan Fill is an international award-winning creator and producer of entertainment programming across television, animation and games. Co-founder of Dark Slope. He is the former Vice President of Decode Entertainment (now Wildbrain), Head of Multi-Platform for Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Co-Founder of BAFTA-nominated production company Chocolate Liberation Front. Dan oversees one of North America’s largest LED volume soundstage facilities.

Raja is a media and technology founder, CEO, angel investor, and board member. Formerly co-founder and  CEO, TV & Digital at Blue Ant Media, and Co-Founder of QuickPlay (sold to AT&T), Raja is the Executive Chair and Co-Founder of Dark Slope. He currently sits on the boards of the Canadian Film Centre and The Bentway and is a former member of the Board of Governors of OCAD University.

Hacksmith Industries is an R&D company that runs a very popular YouTube channel known for bringing fictional and fantastical gadgets and inventions into reality. Founded by James Hobson, Among their notable creations are the legendary “Aliens Power Loader” and the recently acclaimed Fallout Power Armor project. Hacksmith’s team uses engineering and advanced prototyping to create functional versions of popular items, like lightsabers from Star Wars, Iron Man’s repulsors, Thor’s hammer, and Captain America’s shield, which have made their videos extremely popular worldwide.James Hobson, a former engineer, left his job to focus on Hacksmith full-time and has grown the channel to attract millions of followers. Hacksmith collaborates with globally recognized brands such as Warner Brothers, Sony, Bethesda, Supercell, Google, LEGO, and Amazon Studios.

As the VP of content at Proper Television (a division of Boat Rocker Media) for the past 11 years she executive produced over 100 of hours of television including a number of original series and international formats for the Canada, U.S. and International markets including LOST CAR RESCUE for History Channel and Hulu and the multiple Canadian Screen Award winning series, MARY’S KITCHEN CRUSH and MARY MAKES IT EASY for CTV Life and Food Network in the U.S.. 

 

Prior to joining Proper, Allison was a Production Executive at Shaw Media overseeing multiple cross-platform hit shows for HGTV, FOOD Network, and SLICE.

THE RIGHT QUESTION

Threec production

In this quiz show, contestants are given an answer and must come up with the correct question for that answer. How do they know if their question is right? A jury of three  quiz experts (popular quiz participants, question producers, hosts etc) decide whether the question meets all the necessary criteria! The competitor who is the best at inventing questions through various rounds wins the episode.

 

Each 50-minute episode features five contestants, with one eliminated each round. Beyond general knowledge, contestants must make strategic decisions, think quickly, and demonstrate a talent for crafting the perfect question.

Djordje Stankovic

Djordje Stankovic graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, Serbia (2020) and earned a Master’s degree in Film and TV Production (2022). He won second place at NEM Zagreb’s pitch competition with the entertainment format Escape Life! (2023).

He works as a screenwriter for Prva TV (Serbia) on numerous entertainment projects, focusing on unscripted formats. He is also the creator and screenwriter of the quiz show Hat-Trick for Arena Sport (Serbia). Additionally, he was among the Top 5 alternate finalists at the MIPFORMATS competition (Cannes, 2022).

His approach is marked by a dedication to immersive storytelling, whether through strong historical themes or through the use of VFX to elevate the visual experience. Pavlo Cherepin

Pavlo Cherepin is an award winning producer, documentary film director and creator of non-scripted formats with 20+ years of experience in the industry. Known for sports and current affairs documentaries, action reality shows and interactive edutainment films. Producer and director of documentaries “Nukemailing”, “Cyberwar 2022”, “Special Atmosphere”, “The Line of Attack”, “Five Finals”, “Inside Ukraine” and co-creator of non-scripted shows “Scarman” and “Supermatch”‘. With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion to Ukraine, was focused on creating international documentary films that highlighted various aspects of the war for a wide international audience. In particular, the films “Cyberwar 2022” and “Hunger” have been awarded and selected for numerous international film festival programs. The film “Inside Ukraine”, created together with director Kim Yongmi, was recognized by the Hinzpeter Award jury in Rep. Korea. In 2022-2024 Pavlo Cherepin takes part as director and producer in number of documentary developments for Europe’s leading documentary broadcasters, including Arte, DW, SRF, etc. Films produced or directed by Pavlo Cherepin were recently premiered at RTL Germany, CNN Portugal, Docubay India, RTVE Spain, EER Estonia, Al Jazeera, ICTV Ukraine, etc.

JUDGES

Igor Draguzet is the chief content officer at Central European Media Enterprises (CME) since 2021, focusing on content strategies for CME’s linear channels and the SVoD platform, Voyo. In his role, Igor leads initiatives across six Central and Eastern European markets, overseeing development and commissioning of original content and localisation of international formats. Committed to advancing responsible content practices, Igor plays a key role in CME’s ESG strategy. His previous roles include head of programming at CME, leading strategic programming projects at Nova in the Czech Republic, consulting for the Bulgarian market at bTV, and producing unscripted content in Croatia for RTL. 

Collins is one of Australia’s leading television executives with a career spanning 30 years. In her current role as head of screen content for ABC, she leads the development, commissioning and production of content teams including drama, comedy, children’s and family, entertainment, factual, arts and events. Her previous ABC roles have included head of factual and culture, head of entertainment, and director of entertainment and specialist. Collins’s work in the independent production sector includes head of non-fiction at Screentime (Banijay) and director of content at Fremantle. 

Degroote currently serves as EVP, content development for French leading network TF1 Group. 

He is responsible for commissioning, developing or creating and overseeing the new shows for the three TF1 Group national channels: TF1, TMC and TFX and the digital platform MyTF1. His credits include: The Masked Singer, Ninja Warrior, Star Academy, The Wall, Tattoo Fixers, 1000+ daily shows including docu-soap Large Families. 

Degroote is also in charge of spotting the best ideas and trends around the world as head of scouting (scripted and alternative). 

Prior to joining TF1 in 2014, Degroote has been a TV producer for 12 years. As head of programmes in the French independent TV production company Coyote, he managed 200 hours of TV shows produced each year and multi-million budget for TF1 in different genres: Family Feud, Four in a Bed, People’s Quiz, 30+ live entertainment prime time shows. 

Previously, Degroote served as creative senior executive of Endemol France working on Big Brother, Star Academy and overseeing the adaptation of The Celebrities’ Farm. 

Pil Gundelach Brandstrup is group vice-president of original production networks and streaming, Nordics at Warner Bros Discovery and responsible for the local original content offering across networks and streaming in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

 

With more than 23 years of experience in TV production and broadcasting, Brandstrup has for the past 15 years headed content commissioning and programming for some of the biggest Nordic networks, holding posts including channel controller of DR1 at Danish Radio Broadcasting, programme director at Denmark’s TV3 channels and programme director at TV2 in Norway. Before her time in broadcasting, Brandstrup worked in production and development for various production companies. She also holds a master’s degree in film and media studies and is based in Copenhagen.

Ninder Billing is vice president of unscripted international co-productions at A+E Media Group. Based in London, she oversees the A+E International coproductions, formats adaptations and format acquisitions. She is tasked with identifying opportunities with global appeal, and creating new partnerships, working in close collaboration with the company’s extensive network of producers, and commissioning partners.  

 

Billing was previously creative director at Darlow Smithson Productions. Prior to that, she was head of specialist factual at The Garden, and commissioning editor for factual at Channel 5. 

 

Mark Rowland is Executive Director of C21 Media, the international publishing and events business that connects the entertainment industry through daily news, screenings and keynote events, including Content London. Rowland is also chair of the Rose d’Or Awards, now in their 63rd year.

 

He started his career as a journalist and producer in BBC News and Features; joined the leading UK independent production company, Mentorn, as a series editor, then head of development – before launching the successful global production and distribution business, Mentorn International, of which he was managing director.

 

After leaving Mentorn, Rowland launched his own rights management and strategic advisory firm, Indie TV, which works with leading production companies and media investors. He has been responsible for developing a number of successful TV franchises including Robot Wars, Paradise Hotel, Supernanny and Sing Date.
