BBC Alba adds Irish-language drama

Grace Harte will debut next month

Gaelic-language broadcaster BBC Alba has acquired a three-part drama series set in a dilapidated hotel in the West of Ireland.

Grace Harte will air on the UK public channel next month following the deal with the show’s Irish producer Wildfire Films and UK distributor Videoplugger.

Centring on a tragic love triangle, the Irish-language drama follows a couple, both in their 40s, after a young and ambitious surfer sets up a surfing school on the beach adjacent to their crumbling hotel.

The drama originally aired on TG4 in Ireland, whose commissioning editor Máire Ní Chonlain said: “No matter the language, if it’s good drama, it will travel.”

Producer Martha O’Neill of Wildfire Films added: “It is a strong noir drama that deserves a wider audience.”
