Agatha Raisin rises around globe

MIPCOM: Broadcasters around the world have pre-bought rights to the second season of murder-mystery drama Agatha Raisin from All3Media International.

ABC in Australia, MTVA in Hungary and Sky in the UK and Ireland have all licensed the 3×90’/6×45’ second run. They join ZDF, covering Austria, Germany and German-speaking Switzerland; Latvian Television; and TV4 in Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden in pre-buying the drama.

Adapted from the novels by MC Beaton, Agatha Raisin stars Ashley Jensen (Catastrophe, Extras) as a PR-exec-turned-amateur-sleuth in a small English village.

The show is produced by Free@Last TV and Company Pictures together with Acorn Media Enterprises. It is written by Julia Gilbert, Chris Murray and Chris Niel, and produced by Barry Ryan and David Walton. Company Pictures’ Michele Buck is executive producer.

Season two will air in Australia and the UK and Ireland later this year or early next. It will also premiere as an Acorn TV original on the RLJ Entertainment-owned service in the US.
