The Association of True Crime Producers (ATCP) has welcomed its first international members since launching in the UK in 2023.

Perpetual in Australia, Southern Exposure in South Africa, Our Story in New Zealand, Serial Maven Studios in Canada and Gennie Studios, My Entertainment and Texas Crew Productions in the US have all joined the association.

The ATCP was formed to develop the highest professional standards in true-crime production, with members signing up to a set of clear guidelines that puts victims and their families at the centre of the production process and aims to enhance current best practice in duty of care.

The international cohort joins existing UK members Avalon, Back2Back Productions, CMG Productions, First Look TV, Flicker Productions, Good TV, High Rock Media, ITN Productions and Middle Child.

Other UK members include Monster Films, North One Peninsula Television, Phoenix Television, Producing Partners, Rare TV, Redeeming Features, Revelation Films, Title Role, Turquoise TT, Woodcut Media and Yeti.

Kate Beal, chair of the ATCP and CEO of Woodcut Media, said: “Our productions are viewed on platforms globally and establishing membership of the ATCP as an internationally recognised marker of commitment to the highest production standards in true crime programming is an important next step in our association’s evolution.”

Caroline Short, committee member of the ATCP and MD of ITN Productions, said: “True crime content has never been more popular with audiences worldwide and, as producers, our duty of care towards contributors needs to keep pace with this evolving media landscape.

“Welcoming producers from outside the UK into ATCP will be a really effective way of ensuring our standards are upheld no matter where in the world it’s delivered and viewed.”
