Hearst UK, Super Channel co-commission crime docuseries Missing Pieces

Hearst Networks UK and Super Channel in Canada have commissioned Missing Pieces, a true-crime series from Manitoba-based Black Watch Entertainment.

Hearst Networks and Super Channel have ordered 20 episodes, spanning two 10-part seasons. ITV Studios is handling international sales.

Each episode of the show reconstructs a murder starting with a severed limb, torso or other body part. Investigators then race to identify the victim, uncover what happened and find the killer, piecing together evidence from DNA, missing persons reports, digital trails and forensic analysis.

Black Watch Entertainment, which is led by Meghan Duffy and behind shows including I Have to Kill My Neighbor and Finally Caught, said the project “underscores Manitoba’s appeal as a strategic hub for international productions, offering provincial tax credits of up to 65% with no Canadian-content requirements to qualify.”

In the case of Missing Pieces, the show also qualifies for a 25% federal tax incentive because Duffy is a Manitoba resident.

Executive producers include Duffy for Black Watch Entertainment, Diana Carter for Hearst Networks and Mark Marabella. Kim Ball is executive in charge of production for Super Channel. Alison Reid is showrunner.

“We’re always looking for new ways to tell true-crime stories, and Missing Pieces offers a truly unique perspective,” said Duffy.

“Each case starts with a single piece of a victim, and we follow investigators as they work backward to uncover what happened, identify the victim and ultimately find the person responsible.”
