Animated kids’ superhero series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is getting a live-action version through a partnership with IP owner Miraculous Corp and drama prodco See-Saw Films (Slow Horses, Heartstopper), both part of France’s Mediawan.

Miraculous Corp, which produces the animated series, and See-Saw Films will co-develop and coproduce the live-action show. It will be adapted by Emme Hoy, who serves as writer and co-exec producer on season two of See-Saw Films’ thriller Sweetpea.

The live-action series, which will run across multiple seasons, is built to reach a broad and older audience, while still entertaining the franchise’s existing fan community. Like the animated original, it will be set in Paris.

Distributed by Mediawan Kids and Family in more than 150 countries, the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir animated series streams and airs on platforms and broadcasters including Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1. It is currently in its sixth season, with S7 set to launch late this year.

According to Mediawan, the franchise, which also extends across film, gaming, consumer products and live experiences, has 54 million YouTube subscribers, more than 55 billion lifetime views and an average of 900 million monthly views.

The live-action adaptation will be exec produced by Hoy, alongside See Saw Films’ joint founders and CEOs Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, joint MDs Simon Gillis and Ben Irving, and senior development producer Maria Nicholson. See Saw Films’ head of production Nicky Earnshaw is coproducer.

Mediawan Rights will handle worldwide sales of the series.

Created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir follows the adventures of two teenagers, who transform into superheroes to protect the city from supervillains. It made its initial debut in 2015.
