YouTube unveils first Spanish original

YouTube has ordered the first Spanish-language original series for its Premium service, featuring Mexican stand-up comedian and actor Sofía Niño de Rivera.

Sitcom Sobreviví (8×30’) was created by Rivera alongside Raúl Campos Delgado and Félix de Valdivia.

Rivera previously starred in two Netflix comedy specials (Expuesta, Selección Natural) as well as taking a minor part in hit Club de Cuervos, another Netflix original. Sobreviví marks her first leading role in a scripted original series.

The show sees Rivera’s character Sofia struggle to cope with the unglamorous life of a stand-up comic, as she deals with job insecurity, misunderstandings, bureaucracy and bad dates.

The cast also includes Ricardo Peralta, Ricardo Perez, Ana Gonzalez Bello, Octavio Hinojosa, Ariane Pellicer and Xavier Cervantes.

YouTube will launch 50 original series in 2019 and recently outlined its scripted and unscripted shopping list for EMEA. Sobreviví will be available on the platform from October 3.
