YouTube improv arrives in TV Land

Viacom-owned US cablenet TV Land has ordered two 10-part comedies, including one starring an improvisation group that rose to prominence online.

Teachers is being produced by Cap Gun TV and stars The Katydids, who became famous through their YouTube shows.

The series explores the lives of six teachers attempting to inspire the children under their care to become good citizens. Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O’Brien and Katie Thomas, all original members of the group, will star and exec produce.

Impastor has been created by sitcom veteran Christopher Vane and follows a gambler on the run from loan sharks who hides out as a gay pastor in a small US town.

The two single-camera comedies are the latest originals from TV Land, following comedies including Jennifer Falls and Younger. The network has also ordered family comedy The Gaffigan Show.
