Winkler’s Hank Zipzer goes global

Broadcasters in Australia and Scandinavia have acquired the first two seasons of Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler’s series Hank Zipzer, following deals with distributor DHX Media.

The 26×30’ comedy-drama, coproduced by CBBC, Kindle Entertainment, Walker Productions and DHX Media, will air on SVT Sweden and NRK Norway.

DHX has also sold the series to ABC3 in Australia and e-Junior in UAE, as well as Disney Channel in Spain, Italy, Benelux, and Latin America.

Hank Zipzer stars actor Henry Winkler and is inspired by the novels Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever, written by Winkler and Lin Oliver.

The show follows the life of 13-year-old Henry ‘Hank’ Zipzer (played by Nick James) and is based on Winkler’s own experiences as a young boy growing up with dyslexia.

The second season will air on CBBC in the UK next year and is also being made in association with Screen Yorkshire, which is providing funding through its Yorkshire Content Fund.

The first season premiered on BBC iPlayer in January ahead of its debut on CBBC later that month, with new episodes becoming available a week before their transmission on the linear network.
