Viceland orders Van Der Beek comedy

Viceland in the US is moving into scripted TV after ordering a comedy starring Dawson’s Creek actor James Van Der Beek.

What Would Diplo Do? features Van Der Beek playing award-winning real-life musician DJ Diplo and is set to air on the A+E Networks and Vice Media joint-venture channel later this year.

The six-episode show is being written by Van Der Beek, who is attached as showrunner and exec produces alongside Diplo.

Produced by Viceland, US prodco Matador Content and talent firm TMWRK, What Would Diplo Do? is based on an online video starring Van Der Beek that was produced as a promotion for Diplo.

Viceland launched in the US and Canada in February last year in conjunction with A+E Networks and Rogers respectively. Its shows include Balls Deep, F–k That’s Delicious, Gaycation, Noisey and Weediquette.
