UK, Dutch nets circle ITV’s Rings

Broadcasters in the UK and the Netherlands have commissioned the first versions of a gameshow co-developed between two ITV Studios-owned companies.

ITV in the UK and SBS6 in the Netherlands will air their own versions of 5 Golden Rings in early 2017, while Talpa Global will launch the format on the international market at Mipcom later this month.

The format was co-created by UK-based Possessed and Netherlands-based Talpa, both of which are owned by ITV Studios, the production entity operated by UK commercial broadcaster ITV.

It sees players answering questions by placing rings of different sizes on an interactive LED screen while viewers at home are able to play along via their mobile phones.

“The interactivity is a great bonus but I was initially drawn to the fact that it is an innovative, modern and extremely fresh way to do an exciting and original TV game,” said Peter Davey, head of comedy and entertainment at ITV. The series will air under the title 5 Gold Rings in the UK.

Talpa Global will be responsible for worldwide distribution of the format, with ITV Studios producing the show in countries where it has local production businesses.
