Polish broadcaster ITVN has picked up a new comedy drama from Denmark’s DR, which the latter hopes will achieve similar success to Bafta-winner Borgen.

Happy Life (aka Lykke) follows 25-year-old twins whose lives take different directions, one suffering depression while the other enjoys a meteoric career.

ITVN has picked up the 18×60′ series, which has also aired on Nordic public broadcasters including NRK (Norway) and SVT (Sweden).

The show has been nominated for several awards at the Monte Carlo Television Festival 2012, with Christian Rank in the running for both outstanding international producer and outstanding European producer, and Lars Brygmann named in the outstanding actor category.

And DR hopes the latter will be following in the international footsteps of shows such as The Killing and Borgen.

Political drama Borgen last night won the international prize at the Bafta television awards in London, beating off competition from The Killing season two, US sitcom Modern Family and Australian drama The Slap.

The first season of The Killing won the same award last year.

DR is currently filming the third and final season of Borgen, which will continue to follow the personal and political life of its fictional prime minister. It will air locally next year.

Link TV in the US will air season two in June, before it is shown on BBC4 in the UK this winter. Borgen has already been sold into about 30 countries.

Speaking to C21 about the Bafta win, DR’s head of sales Helene Aurø said: “I’m sure we will close some more deals in the near future. It’s great to get such a prestigious award.”
