Syfy renews Van Helsing

US cablenet Syfy has renewed action-horror series Van Helsing, a female take on the classic Dracula story, for a second season.

The hour-long drama, which premiered in September, will return for 13 episodes, with production expected to begin in January 2017.

An original Syfy coproduction, Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures.

The executive producers are Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev from Nomadic, showrunner-writer Neil LaBute, Simon Barry (Continuum), Evan Tyler from Industry Works, Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell from Echo Lake Entertainment, as well as Daniel March, MD of Dynamic Television.

LA-based Dynamic is also handling the worldwide distribution for the series, excluding first-run US television and Canada.
