Syfy bolsters drama with Hunters

US cablenet Syfy has made a straight-to-series order for a show based on best-selling novel Alien Hunter that will be produced by one of the execs behind AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Hunters, based on Whitley Strieber’s book, is being produced by Universal Cable Productions and Valhalla Entertainment, the prodco founded by The Walking Dead exec producer Gale Anne Hurd.

The 13-part show follows a detective who becomes a suspect when his wife goes missing. While trying to prove his innocence, he uncovers evidence of aliens living amongst the population.

It will premiere in 2016 and is being written by Natalie Chaidez, who previously worked on Heroes. She will exec produce alongside Hurd.

The show bolsters Syfy’s drama offering, which already includes Ascension, Helix, 12 Monkeys and Olympus, as well as the recent order for Childhood’s End.
