Starz places The Chair online

US cablenet Starz will make the first five episodes of its upcoming reality show The Chair available online before being broadcast on the linear network.

The episodes will be accessible to subscribers of Starz Play and Starz On Demand from September 6, with the show debuting later that day on the network at 23.00.

Chris Albrecht, CEO at Starz, said the move was designed “to reach a young adult population that is in the vanguard of ‘bingeing’ on shows as their preferred method of viewing.”

Created by Oscar-winning exec producer Chris Moore, The Chair follows directors Shane Dawson and Anna Martemucci as they use the same screenplay and identical budgets to create their own films.

The resulting films will then air on Starz, with viewers voting to decide which director should be awarded US$250,000.

The 10-part series, greenlit in April, is being exec produced by Moore and Anthony B Sacco, in partnership with Starz, Steel Town Entertainment Project and Before the Door Pictures.
