South Africa, 1901 The British war against the Boers has deteriorated into bitter guerilla warfare. A unit of the Bushveldt Carbineers, is ordered by the British High Command to fight the Boer on it’s terms and take no prisoners; an order which will prove fatal to a man they call The Breaker, Lieutenant Harry Morant.

Commander-in-Chief of British forces, Lord Kitchener, claimed he executed Morant and Handcock for shooting Boer prisoners – but he was already the subject of counter claims that he had used them as scapegoats. other units in Kitchener’s army were shooting Boer who had surrendered. The British Government refused to release the transcripts of Morant’s trial and so began a century of speculation.
