Fraser says documentary makers face two big problems: the increasing involvement of NGOs and charities in the funding mix means many docs are unsuitable for public broadcasters; and the fact that films get posted free on YouTube soon after release. The Global iPlayer might solve the latter by generating revenue for filmmakers.
