Beginning with the hanging body of the town’s beloved country doctor who’s just about to retire, a series of mysterious and gruesome murders begin to pile up in the idyllic town of Höllgrund. Residents cling to the conviction that the doctor’s death is a suicide. But that’s just the start of the suspicions. While the rest of the townsfolk of slightly bent characters close ranks around their shared dark past, a singular country cop chases her intuition that something is amiss. When ghosts start to appear and tell her what to investigate, policewoman Tanja is sure that murder is afoot and that secrets are lurking around every corner. More corpses and questions pile up, so Tanja allies with another vital and driving persona of the thrilling and suspenseful chase for truth: The charming new country doctor Fabian. His actions are physical and ghost-like at the same time as he systematically tracks down the pieces and players of the mystery for himself and for the memory of his mother. Yet strangely Fabian is at odds with conscience, voices, vengeance and romance all at once. Who is friend, who is foe?
