Rocket Science is aiming to create shows for global film and television audiences and is backed by strategic investors from across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Further details have not been revealed.

The firm intends to build a slate across platforms and will be headquartered in London, with plans to open an LA office in 2017.

Schumacher spent more than 13 years at London-based sales company HanWay Films, where he was MD and oversaw titles such as Shame, Quartet and Brooklyn.

Rocket Science’s first project is overseeing sales of Dominic Cooke’s film adaption of Ian McEwan’s bestselling novel On Chesil Beach.

Schumacher said the drama would be “a perfect first project” for the fledgling firm “as we aim to bring top filmmaking talent together to tell unforgettable stories with universal appeal.

“It marks the start of what we’re certain will be a great adventure for everyone involved with the company, with the promise of further ambitious projects to come.”

On Chesil Beach has been developed by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley’s Number 9 Films, along with with BBC Films. Lionsgate has taken UK rights, with the start of principal photography scheduled for October.
