Australian pubcaster SBS is following Netflix’s binge-viewing model by making the entire first season of conspiracy drama Utopia available immediately after its terrestrial debut.
SBS2 will premiere the cult series on Tuesday December 18 in a marathon screening session over two nights.
In a similar style to US streaming giant Netlix, SBS will make the show available online immediately on its catch-up service SBS OnDemand, so viewers can watch it in one go.
Utopia (6×60’) tells the story of a group of people whose lives are targeted by a shadowy organisation called The Network after coming into possession of a cult graphic novel, which is said to have predicted the worst disasters of the past century.
UK broadcaster Channel 4 commissioned the conspiracy drama from Kudos Film & Television in 2012. A second season of the show is in production.
