Skype adds video sharing Skype, the internet telephony service whose founders are behind broadband TV start-up Joost, has started allowing users to share videos following deals with Dailymotion and Metacafe. The company, which was bought out by eBay for US$2.6bn in a deal that handed its creators Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström the funds to kick-start Joost, has just released the latest version of its software. Skype's newest incarnation for Windows now allows users to download their favourite videos from Dailymotion and Metacafe and add them into their Skype profile. "User-generated and licensed video content are incredibly popular. Working with Dailymotion and Metacafe means everyone can try out downloading their favourite clip and putting it in their online profile," said Skype general manager of desktop products Carter Adamson. "Video content is a great conversation starter because people love talking about video clips and especially the ones that are personal to them." Speaking to C21 earlier this year, Joost's chief strategic officer Fredrik de Wahl said that while Skype and Joost are currently separate services, it would be possible to integrate them with the flick of a switch.
