AMC in the US has ordered a second 13-part run of comic book-based drama Preacher halfway through its first season.

The show, from AMC Studios and Sony Pictures Television, is exec produced by Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This is the End).

It focuses on the life of a previously devout Texan preacher and his vampire ex-girlfriend who attempt to track down God after discovering he has left heaven.

Preacher is based on the 1990s Vertigo comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, with Rogen and Goldberg exec producing the first 10-part run alongside Catlin, who also acted as showrunner.

AMC has already enjoyed huge success with fellow comic book remake The Walking Dead, while the trend has also seen NBC greenlight an adaptation of DC Comics’ Constantine and The CW rework The Flash and Arrow.

Preacher was picked up in the UK by Amazon Prime Video, although telecoms giant BT carries an international version of the AMC network in the country.

It joined an Amazon line-up that includes The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Mr Robot, Fear the Walking Dead and forthcoming motoring series The Grand Tour, fronted by former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
