Hulu buys Parker Posey-hosted competition format from Studio Lambert, Primal Media

US streaming service Hulu has ordered a new unscripted competition format from Studio Lambert (The Traitors) and Primal Media (Release the Hounds), among several other reality greenlights.

Parker Posey

The Mob is to be hosted by US actress Parker Posey (The White Lotus) and follows a group of celebrities in an Italian villa as they attempt to psychologically outwit one another to win a US$250,000 cash prize.

Per a logline, the contestants will “shake down, hustle and whack their way” to claim the prize, in addition to tackling “mob movie-inspired jobs to survive.”

The format was created by Adam Wood and Mat Steiner, who jointly lead UK-based prodco Primal Media. Wood and Steiner are executive producing alongside Studio Lambert’s Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Niall O’Driscoll and Stephen Lambert. Othe exec producers include Posey and David Mortimer, who heads up Primal Media’s majority owner STV Studios. Susan House serves as showrunner.

Contestants set to appear in The Mob include Aida Turturro (The Sopranos), Willam Belli (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Joe Gorga (The Real Housewives of New Jersey), Demi Engemann (The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives), Chelsea Lazkani (Selling Sunset), Bella Palk (Love Overboard), and Bruno Tonioli (Dancing With the Stars).

The Mob was one of several series unveiled by Hulu at its Get Real House event on Wednesday.

During the event, the streamer also announced the greenlight for a The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives spin-off set in Orange County. The franchise extension is produced by Jeff Jenkins Productions in association with 3BMG and Walt Disney Television Alternative.

In addition, Hulu and Freeform co-commissioned Million Dollar Nannies, about a group of young and “elite” nannies who navigate competition, personal drama and scandal as they move to Ibiza to set up an agency. The show is produced by Hi Mom Productions and 3 Ball in association with Walt Disney Television Alternative.
