Merlin conjures up a second season BBC1 fantasy drama Merlin has been renewed for season two this autumn, following its first season garnering 6.2 million viewers and sales into 52 territories. Colin Morgan, Katie McGrath, Santiago Cabrera, Bradley James and Anthony Head reprise their roles, while guest stars will include Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean), Sarah Parish (Mistresses), Adrian Lester (Primary Colors) and Charles Dance (Bleak House). John Hurt returns to voice the dragon. "It’s going to be bigger, bolder and more action-packed than ever, with great new villains, white-knuckle fight sequences and hilarious comic fun for the whole family to enjoy," said exec producer Johnny Capps. The 13-part series has financial backing from not only BBC1 but also FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) alongside production house Shine Television. FME holds licensing rights across international distribution, home entertainment (excluding the UK) and L&M. On the international front, Merlin season one will debut on NBC in the US on June 21, making it "the first UK show acquired by a major US network for primetime in 30 years," according to FME.
