Frost settles on Al Jazeera English flagship UK broadcaster, author and producer Sir David Frost will present the flagship current affairs show on upcoming international news network Al Jazeera English. Frost over the World will be broadcast from London as the leading current affairs programme on the network for one hour every Friday in the 18.00 GMT slot, starting this Friday. Each programme will feature interviews with international leaders and newsmakers, the latest from stars of the arts and entertainment world and a four-way global debate with contributors from all over the world. Director of news and programming at Al Jazeera English Steve Clark said Frost's experience and "formidable" style complements the network's broad range of programmes. "Having someone as recognised and synonymous with ground-breaking programming working with Al Jazeera is an obvious and fortuitous partnership," he said. Commenting on his new programme, Sir David said: "People, blithely, talk all the time about 'new challenges,' but this really is a huge new challenge – broadcasting to a worldwide audience. Frost Over the World will be a new show for a new channel for the new century." Landmark interviews have always been a feature of Frost's career, which has seen him go one-to-one with the six most recent British prime ministers and the seven most recent US presidents, as well as British royalty, international politicians and world leaders, and A-list celebrities. Frost was previously host and co-creator of That Was the Week That Was; producer of A Gift of Song: The Music for UNICEF Concert; author of 15 books; producer of eight films; and the joint founder of London Weekend Television and TV-am. Al Jazeera English claims to be the world's first English language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East, featuring programmes from freelancers and independent companies all across the globe through commissioning site www.ajicommissioning.net. The 24-hour channel has also announced a new programme, Inside Story, a daily half-hour discussion show that will go "beyond the headlines" to analyse and investigate news stories in a fresh light. A coproduction with sister channel Al Jazeera, Inside Story draws on the spirit of the older channel's news programme Ma Wara al Khabar (Behind the News), going beyond the day's reports to provide in-depth analysis and commentary on key news stories. The series will air live five days a week from the channel's HQ in Doha at 16.30 GMT, hosted by Al Jazeera English's team of news presenters. Antony Reeve-Crook 13 Nov 2006 © C21 Media 2006 |
