Survivorman reworked for kids MIPCOM: Canadian animation outfit 9 Story Entertainment announced the launch of a new live-action series for kids based on reality series Survivorman today in Cannes. In a departure for the prodco and distributor, 9 Story has struck a development deal with wilderness-survival expert and filmmaker Les Stroud for its first live-action production, based on Stroud's Survivorman, made for Discovery Channel. 9 Story will develop the series jointly with Les Stroud's and partner David Brady's Survivorman Productions. 9 Story CEO and co-partner Vince Commisso said: "Our mandate has always been to create enduring brands. Les Stroud's Survivorman incorporates science, biology, geology and creativity along with very practical information that speaks to man's innate survival instinct," concepts that will be adapted for younger viewers, he added. "From the very start, I knew that Survivorman was a natural for kids," said Stroud, saying the timing for a kids series of this nature was ideal. "The thanks I receive from parents whose kids have turned from video games to outdoor adventures is extremely rewarding."
