Horror series premieres on UK mobile
Liberty Global-backed cabsat broadcaster Zonemedia's mobile division Zone Mobile is launching the first made-for-mobile horror series, the company has announced.
 Zone Mobile has linked up with prodco Pure Grass Films to launch When Evil Calls in 20x2’ mobisodes on the UK's O2 network on October 23, ahead of Halloween.
The series is written and directed by horror supremo Johannes Roberts (Forest of the Damned, Darkhunters) and features high-profile actors, among them Jennifer Lim (Hostel, Rogue Trader), Dominique Pinon (Amelie, Delicatessen, Alien: Resurrection), Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf, The Brittas Empire, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and Rick Warden (Band of Brothers, Rome).
The series will be available for download via the O2 Active portal film section or by texting to receive a WAP push with a WAP URL to link users directly to the series. But in view of some violent and sexually explicit scenes, O2 will be respecting the 21.00 watershed to safeguard younger viewers.
Although the series was developed specifically for mobile devices, it is also suitable for digital broadcast, IPTV, VoD, iPod and other new media applications, the company said. Following its O2 launch, it will go on general release through the Zone Horror WAP site and all major UK mobile operators.
"We believe there is so much opportunity to exploit this type of programming across all markets and platforms that we expect this to be the first of many series that we co-develop for the growing global market," said Zonemedia's chief business development and new media officer Tanya Gugenheim.
