Virgin1 greenlights 'controversial' docs

UK cable network Virgin1 has commissioned two one-off documentaries to form part of an upcoming summer season of "noisy and controversial" programming.

Why Men Watch Porn (1x60') is made by Crackit Productions and looks at the reasons why men use pornography and the different ways in which it affects them and their relationships. The doc was ordered by senior commissioning editor Rebecca Johnson and is exec produced for Crackit Productions by Elaine Hackett.

The Naked Office (1x60'), meanwhile, was produced by Shine North and follows a Newcastle-based business building up to 'Naked Friday,' a day when all of its workers will come to work nude.

Mark Sammon, head of commissioning for parent company Virgin Media Television, commissioned the doc, which is executive produced by Robin Ashbrook and Andrew Nicholson at Shine North.

The documentaries will accompany the one-off So You Think I'm An A***hole?, a documentary which sees presenter Jim Davidson confronting the public's perception of him.

Daniela Neumann, Virgin Media Television's director of programming, said: "All of our new season of controversial content promises explosive and surprising results spanning a variety of taboo subject matter."
