Youth series, event movies top ZDFE sales MIPCOM NEWS: ZDF Enterprises (ZDFE), the commercial arm of Germany pubcaster ZDF, has reported buoyant sales for children's series and event TV movies at this year's market. Star attractions, said ZDF, are Jonathan M Shiff productions, including new series The Elephant Princess, coproduced by ZDF, Jonathan M Shiff and Network Ten in Australia, which has been picked up by Italy's Rai and Nickelodeon in Spain. Also proving popular is Jonathan M Shiff's H2O - Just Add Water, which has so far been licensed in more than 120 countries. Adding to the tally this time round are Nickelodeon/Viacom in the US, Canada and the UK; YTV in Canada; NRK in Norway; RTI/Mediaset in Italy; Milenium in Romania; and Eurocom in Poland. Other kids' shows from the ZDFE catalogue to attract interest included The Lost Treasure of Fiji and Scooter, both of which have been sold as series or TV movie versions to ITV in the UK, Nickelodeon in Spain and Icelandic TV. ABC in Australia, meanwhile, has picked up Shaolin Wuzang and season two of Martin Morning. Event TV movies are ZDFE's other strong performers, with The Miracle of Berlin (Teamworx) and Ship of No Return (UFA) both selling to Australia, Sweden, Japan, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. The Miracle of Berlin received an added boost following its nomination for an International Emmy, announced during Mipcom, alongside another ZDFE title - crime series The Killing. Overall, ZDFE has reported "solid" sales to 25 clients in more than 50 countries across its slate, said Alexander Coridass, CEO of programmes and sales. Other ZDFE fare that continues to generate strong international sales includes its library of popular romantic TV movies and TV movie collections, with new Inga Lindström and Rosamunde Pilcher films picked up by M6 and TF1 in France, SVT in Sweden, Swiss TV, Slovakia's Markiza, Diema Bulgaria, Kanal2 in Estonia, the Czech Republic's Hollywood CE and BTV in Lithuania. Meanwhile, the series Here Comes Kalle has sold to RTI/Mediaset in Italy, TF1 in France and BTV in Lithuania, with crime series Hamburg Dockland, KDD, Soko Cologne, Siska, The Criminalist and Soko 5113 selling to France, Spain, Finland and Slovakia. On the factual front, ZDFE has also closed a major package deal with n-tv in Germany for 65 hours of programming, which includes 40 hours of AETN's Modern Marvels series that ZDFE distributes in German-language territories. Further documentary sales were made to Germany's Focus TV, Super RTL, Kabel 1 and Planet, as well as Switzerland's SF, Austria's ORF, the History Channel UK and RTV in Slovenia.
