NBCUI nabs BBCWW’s Gibbons

NBCUniversal International (NBCUI) has hired BBC Worldwide’s recently appointed chief operating officer to work on its digital growth strategy.

David Gibbons will become senior VP of international operations and technology at NBCUI from the end of September, reporting to chairman Kevin MacLellan and president of operations and technical services Ian Trombley.

Gibbons will be based in London and play “an integral role” in developing NBCU’s digital reach as well as overseeing broadcast operations, digital technology teams and identifying new opportunities for innovation.

MacLellan said Gibbons would “be a strong contributor in augmenting NBCUI’s digital leadership at a transitional time that presents many incredibly exciting opportunities”.

Gibbons has only been chief operating officer at the BBC’s commercial arm since February and before that was director of global operations, working across initiatives linking BBCWorldwide Labs and on-demand service BBC Store.

He replaces Andrew Jordan at NBCUI, who left in March to join events firm Carlson Wagonlit Travel.
