Mintz picks up Carlyle’s EBC stake

US filmmaker Dan Mintz is set to buy Carlyle Group’s 61% stake in Taiwan’s Eastern Broadcasting Corp (EBC) for an undisclosed sum.

The move will allow private equity firm Carlyle to sell the investment in EBC it first tried to dispose of in 2013.

In a statement, Mintz (Iron Man 3), founder and CEO of US-based DMG Entertainment, said he was in the process of buying the stake and the deal is subject to regulatory approval.

Last August Carlyle attempted to exit the holding jointly with EBC’s second-biggest shareholder, Eastern Media International, for at least US$650m.
